Una Copla Me Ha Cantado
Violeta Parra
A Copla Has Sung to Me
A copla has sung to me
The love I desire,
With that sharp copla
It has drained my voice.
She might think I don't understand
What she sang in her copla,
From the first note
It laid down in my mind.
I asked her for a glass of water,
I don't deny she gave it to me,
But like one gives to a dog
The rest that was left over.
A thousand times she has repeated
The copla like a clock,
When one was enough
To silence my voice.
What will it be, you will say,
The copla she sang to me;
It's like the gunshot
That kills without rhyme or reason.
