Una Mañana de Mayo
Parrita
A May Morning
One May morning
and to a garden I went to pick
a rose was showing off
and when I picked it, I pricked myself
and seeing how that rose defended itself
without thinking, I left it there in its rosebush
I told it that by April of next year
I will come to ask for its hand and cut it
as long as she wants me
She didn't tell me for the moment
that she was too young to love
that she wasn't ready for boyfriends
and to leave her alone
but I know that with her mouth
she wasn't telling the truth
I will leave everything I have
I will count the passing days
because everything is a matter of time
patience almost always wins
(Look, read my cards
the good adventure
to see if that gypsy loves me
look at you, old gypsy
tell me what future awaits me...)
I keep singing under the moon
the romance of love
and I even write her poems
and I even ask for forgiveness
because at night in my dreams
I give her little kisses of love
I will leave everything I have
I will count the passing days
because everything is a matter of time
patience almost always wins
(Look, read my cards
the good adventure
to see if that gypsy loves me
look at you, old gypsy
tell me what future awaits me...)
