Adiós
Patricio Manns
Goodbye
I remember the dull dock,
my chest like a forge,
an inflexible ship floating
in the spell of the lights
spinning over the brightness
of the bitter and tender water
of this fierce Valparaíso.
I remember your silhouette
standing on the bridge,
and I remember myself alone
and shattered on the asphalt
with a network of furrows
breaking my forehead
and the heart shattered
by your light from above.
I remember your small
handkerchief trembling,
like a wounded bird
bleeding in full flight,
and your intense and secret
gaze contemplating
the infinite collapse
of my soul under the sky.
I remember you among horns
of mist moaning,
and again your handkerchief
and your two blue eyes,
and the tireless rage
of my body roaring
to the infamous horizon
where the ships die.
