Cuando Me Acuerdo de Mi País
Patricio Manns
When I Remember My Country
(written in Havana.)
When I remember my country
A volcano bleeds in me.
When I remember my country
I scratch myself and exist.
When I remember my country
I die of bread,
I cloud and leave,
I clarify and give myself,
I plant and they leave,
It hurts and I am not,
When I remember my country.
When I remember my country
I completely shipwreck.
When I remember my country
It snows on my temples.
When I remember my country
I write myself in salt,
I delay in good,
I anguish in train,
I crack in bad,
I get sick on the platform,
When I remember my country.
When I remember my country
I get angry about yesterday.
When I remember my country
I rain in April.
When I remember my country
I wear the duty,
I get gently confused,
I light up like a lantern,
I get ruffled by being,
I wake up a rifle,
When I remember my country.
