A Lenda da Piroga de Cristal
Paulo Silvino
The Legend of the Crystal Pirogue
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
Spoken: "This is the legend of the Crystal Pirogue. A story written in a very remote time, when Brazil wasn't even Brazil: it was Pindorama. The pirogues, as you know, are the canoes of the Indians. And there are Indians with small pirogues, big pirogues, depending on the size of the trees they cut down to carve the pirogue on its trunk. This legend tells the story of the Indian Boi Xavante who cut down a huge Jequitibá and made an immense pirogue that he always kept varnished with carnauba oil. He was very respected in the whole tribe because of that, as he fed the entire tribe with that pirogue. He always returned from fishing with the pirogue full of fish, and sometimes even a crab stuck to the pirogue. It was crazy! Until one day..."
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
Boi Xavante, brave Indian
With a huge pirogue
Kidnapped the chief Gavião's daughter
Her husband, Cão do Norte
Allied with the Shaman
Seeking revenge with death
For the dishonor of the woman
Destroy his pirogue
Set fire to his pirogue
Pulverize his pirogue
End his pirogue
But, Jaci heard
The couple's prayers
And transformed Boi Xavante's boat
Into a beautiful crystal pirogue
But the clumsy Indian
Danced with excitement
Hit the wrong ball
And broke the big pirogue
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
Destroy his pirogue
Set fire to his pirogue
Pulverize his pirogue
End his pirogue
Destroy his pirogue
Set fire to his pirogue
Pulverize his pirogue
End his pirogue
But, Jaci heard
The couple's prayers
And transformed Boi Xavante's boat
Into a beautiful crystal pirogue
But the clumsy Indian
Danced with excitement
Hit the wrong ball
And broke the big pirogue
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
How big his pirogue was
Going down the river, running to the sea
