Cancion Del Pirata
Pedro Infante
The Pirate's Song
With ten cannons on each side,
wind astern, full sail,
it cuts through the sea, it doesn't sail
a brigantine sailboat:
the pirate ship they call,
for its bravery, the Feared,
in every known sea
from one end to the other.
The moon shines on the sea,
the wind moans in the canvas,
and in soft motion it raises
waves of silver and blue;
and the pirate captain sees,
singing joyfully at the stern,
Asia on one side, Europe on the other,
and there in front, Istanbul.
"Sail, my sailboat,
without fear;
for neither enemy ship,
nor storm, nor fair weather
can alter your course,
nor subdue your courage.
Twenty prizes
we have taken
in spite
of the English,
and they have surrendered
their flags
to my feet."
For my ship is my treasure
for my God is freedom,
my law is strength and the wind,
my only homeland is the sea.
"There fierce war is waged
by blind kings
for a palm more of land
that I have here as mine
as far as the wild sea extends,
to which no one imposed laws.
"And there is no shore
whatever it may be,
my flag
of splendor,
that does not feel
and from the chest
my valor."
For my ship is my treasure...
"At the ship's call comes!
It is to be seen how it turns and prepares
to escape at full speed;
for I am the king of the sea,
and my fury is to be feared.
"In the spoils
I divide
what is taken
equally;
I only desire
for wealth
the unrivaled beauty."
For my ship is my treasure...
"I am sentenced to death!
I laugh:
fortune does not abandon me
and to the one who condemns me,
I will hang from some yardarm,
perhaps on his own ship.
"And if I fall,
what is life?
I gave it up
when the yoke
of the slave
I shook off like a brave."
For my ship is my treasure...
"My best music
are the north winds;
the noise and trembling,
of the shaken cables,
the roars of the black sea
and the roar of my cannons.
"And from the thunder
to the violent sound
and from the wind
to the resounding roar
I sleep
peacefully,
rocked
by the sea."
For my ship is my treasure,
for my God is freedom,
my law is strength and the wind,
my only homeland is the sea.
