A Vida do Vaqueiro
Poeta J Sousa
The Cowboy's Life
The northeastern cowboy
Has a lot of determination
His struggle is heavy
But he doesn't give up
Even though it's heavy, he does
With pleasure in his heart
Early in the morning
At dawn
He's milking
The cows in the corral
Wearing a pair of boots
Made of animal leather
After milking
With all his determination
He takes the cattle to graze
In the boss's field
Riding his horse
Which he loves dearly
Where there's a rodeo
He enters the competition
Brings down the bull in the ring
With absolute courage
And wins a gold medal
The symbol of his struggle
He faces brave bulls
Inside the thickets
And wherever the bull goes
Running, he follows
Lassoes the bull with a rope
And brings it to the post
The cowboy feeds
On milk, cheese, and curd
Beans with corn couscous
Good cream and roasted meat
That's why he's ready
For his great journey
The cowboy from the backlands
Doesn't fear even death
His home is the farm
And the horse is his transport
He only fears Jesus
Who is powerful and strong
His shirt is the jacket
His pants are the leggings
He only wears a leather hat
Throughout his life
And rodeo for him
Is the best game
The sound he hears the most
Is the cattle's bell
His music is forró
And improvised verse
His pool is a pond
And his school is the field
He doesn't leave the farm
Not even for Rio de Janeiro
He doesn't talk to businessmen
But to the rural man
He only dates and marries
A farmer's daughter
I now conclude
With great satisfaction
This poem in which
I narrated
Detailing the life
Of the backlands cowboy
