O Tempo Em Que Eu Era Criança
Quinteto em Branco e Preto
The Time When I Was a Kid
I remember the time when I was a kid
Barefoot on the grass, on the pavement, and in the sand
Playing around, making a mess
Breaking windows in the neighborhood
Playing soccer with a sock for a ball
Setting traps to catch little birds
Making boats out of cork and bottle caps
Climbing trees along the way
Playing too much at cops and robbers
Walking in the mud, jumping over trash
I also went to the neighbor's yard
There was a girl I was a fan of
We played doctor behind the kitchen
And when she saw an adult coming
She'd say to me:
"Wait, grape or apple (or apple?)"
If I was going to take a bath, I’d bring a magazine
With naked women, stars, and artists
I’d stay out until tomorrow morning
The top I spun was made from a tree stump
My team’s button was a coconut shell
Marbles were called bilha, they were awesome
String for kites was ground glass from the
Streetcar tracks
We played tag, capture the flag, and hide and seek
I spun my hoop between the benches in the park
I made scooters, toy cars from marbles
And a haircut was a stamp, a seal, a sticker
I was
The memory deep down makes me feel something
Ah! If I knew what I know about the world
I wouldn’t have grown up.
