Carta De Un Leon A Otro
Raúl Lavié
Letter From One Lion To Another
Forgive me, my brother, if I tell you
that I haven't felt like writing to you.
I don't know if it's the confinement, I don't know if it's the food
or the time I've been in this life.
The truth is that the zoo depresses
and evil is not redeemed without love.
If it weren't for those children, who bring their joy,
it would be even more bitter.
You will do better, I hope,
traveling around the world,
even though the tamer, as you tell me,
makes you work more than you should.
You have to understand, brother,
that the master has a villain:
not being able to control who he wants
takes out his power on the beasts.
Many humans
are important
with a chair in hand,
whip in hand.
But coming back to me, nothing has changed
here since we were separated.
There is something, however, that I notice among the people
it seems like they look different.
Their eyes have lost some sparkle
as if they were the captives.
I know what I'm telling you, bet whatever you want
that outside they have thousands of problems.
Returning to nature
would be their greatest wealth.
There they can love each other freely
and there are no people zoos.
Take care, brother,
I don't know when,
but that day
is coming.
