Ni Una Menos

Not One Less
I wish I had sweet things to write
But I have to choose and I choose anger
5 women have been murdered today
And at least 20 women raped every hour
That's just one day in Guatemala
Multiply that and you'll know why we're pissed
I won't tiptoe around for those who don't get it
This is an emergency and we're ready
I'm not a pacifist, don’t expect things I don’t offer
I didn’t ask for a pedestal nor do I deserve one
I’m like the others, fed up with living in fear
Aggressive because that’s how I defend myself
I have no privilege to protect this body
On the street, they think I'm a perfect target
But I'm black like my flag and brave
In my name and in the name of all my great-grandmothers
The healer who died from so many blows
Because the man who loved her really hated her
The other one who was abandoned with a child
And when she got sick, she had to send him to a home
This goes for me because at 15
A blow from his hand crossed my face
Because no human showed up
The day a criminal left my nipple marked
This goes for the 9-year-old girl
Forced into pregnancy because her brother raped her
A girl without rights because the clergy
Considers that abortion is worse than what was done to her
I refer to the facts
I’m not going to explain with drawings to any of those guys
Who think their intellect will come to educate us
Sitting in their privilege
I have no privilege to protect this body
On the street, they think I'm a perfect target
But I'm black like my flag and brave
In my name and in the name of all my great-grandmothers
Tell us right, in the streets we are thousands
From Mexico to Chile and all over the planet
Standing up because we want you alive
We’re not afraid, we don’t want one less
Call me crazy, hysterical, and exaggerated
But today I sing in my name
And in the name of all my sisters
Don’t accuse us of being violent, this is self-defense
We are in resistance, we are no longer defenseless
But I'm black like my flag and brave
In my name and in the name of all my great-grandmothers
