Über den Wolken
Reinhard Mey
Above the Clouds
Wind from the north/east, runway zero-three
I can hear the engines up to here
Like an arrow, she passes by
And it roars in my ears
And the wet asphalt trembles
Like a veil, the rain dusts
Until she takes off and she floats
Towards the sun
Above the clouds
Freedom must be boundless
All fears, all worries
They say
Remain hidden below
And then
What seems great and important to us
Suddenly becomes insignificant and small
I watch her for a long time
See her climb the clouds
Until the lights gradually
Blur in the rain gray
My eyes have already
Lost that tiny point
Only from afar sounds monotonous
The hum of the engines
Above the clouds
Freedom must be boundless
All fears, all worries
They say
Remain hidden below
And then
What seems great and important to us
Suddenly becomes insignificant and small
Then everything is quiet, I go
Rain penetrates my jacket
Someone is brewing coffee
In the air traffic control shack
Gasoline swims in the puddles
Shimmering like a rainbow
Clouds reflect in it
I would have liked to fly along
Above the clouds
Freedom must be boundless
All fears, all worries
They say
Remain hidden below
And then
What seems great and important to us
Suddenly becomes insignificant and small
