Le Déserteur
Richard Anthony
The Deserter
Mr. President
I'm writing you a letter
That you may read
If you have the time
I just received
My military papers
To go to war
Before Wednesday night
Mr. President
I don't want to do it
I'm not on this earth
To kill poor people
It's not to make you mad
I have to tell you
Wars are nonsense
The world has had enough
Since I was born
I've seen brothers leave
I've seen fathers die
And cried for my children
Mothers have suffered so much
While others stuff themselves
And live in comfort
Despite the bloodshed
She's in her grave
And mocks the bombs
And mocks the worms
There are prisoners
Their souls were stolen
Their wives were stolen
And all their dear past
Tomorrow morning
I'll close my door
To the dead years
I'll go on the roads
I'll beg for my life
On land and sea
From the old to the new world
And I'll tell people
Enjoy life
It will have denied misery
We are all brothers
I want all countries
If blood must be shed
Go shed your own
Mr. Good Apostles
Mr. President
If you pursue me
Warn your policemen
That I won't have weapons
And they can shoot
