De Mi Barrio
Rosita Quiroga
From My Neighborhood
I was the prettiest girl from my neighborhood
In a nun's school I was educated
And even though my parents didn't have much money
I mingled with fancy families
And because of that fancy treatment
Being a good girl was my only dream
Completely forgetting my past
I gave my heart to a tycoon
For his court and distinguished treatment
For the things he lied to me about
I didn't believe he could be wicked
A boy so correct and educated
However, the bad man induced me with promises of giving me his name
To leave my abandoned home; to go live by his side
And that's why my life slips away; between tango and cabaret champagne
My pain blends into my smile; because I got used to laughing at my pain
And if I find some fool who pretends
To get my love for gold
I'll leave him with nothing to teach him a lesson
And they'll pay me for the suffering he caused me
Today I dance the tango; I'm a tango dancer they call me crazy and... what do I know?
I'm a flower of mud, just anyone's fault of the man who deceived me
Among the lights of a thousand colors and the joy of the cabaret
I sell caresses and I sell loves; to forget the one who left
I was the prettiest girl from my neighborhood
In a nun's school I was educated
And even though my parents didn't have much money
I mingled with fancy families
And because of that fancy treatment
Being a good girl was my only dream
Completely forgetting my past
I gave my heart to a tycoon
