El Ultimo Viaje (Milonga)
Ruben Alberto Benegas
The Last Journey (Milonga)
In my years as a cowboy
How many frosts I endured
And in thousands of sleepless nights
Rains, winds, and downpours
How many fierce bulls I faced
How many times I walked among the cattle
How much courage I gathered
To face life
And today my strength is defeated
I'm on the last journey
How many emotions I found
Arriving from place to place
How many compliments
Of appreciation and praise
How many songs I heard
How many times I played the strings
How much I walked among the gauchos
In fields and taverns
And today not even a star guides me
I'm on the last journey
That's why, alone and sad
I, who was so restless
I don't move from where I am
My soul dresses in mourning
And if destiny insists
That not even a blow stops me
I'll say goodbye to the countrymen
Of my beloved homeland
And to the corner of oblivion
I go on the last journey
