This Singer's Trade (Milonga)

Because I've always liked to embrace this wood
Today I let go of my grip, the most tuned lasso
The guitar has invited me to this flourish through milonga
And now that I find myself in this circle of gauchos
I'm going to throw with all the fuss the lasso that I carry in my chest

I was lucky, gentlemen, to have been born Argentine
And for the better, destiny mixed me among singers
There may be better trades but when comparing
No one can deny that between the crow and the goldfinch
The former is in mourning because it didn't learn to sing

Because my star wanted it, I'm different from the ovenbird
Where I'm invited, I stay, where I don't follow the trail
Maybe it never bothers me not having had my nest
I'm crossed with roads and even though I'm a wanderer
I never lack a corner in a friend's ranch

That's my life, that's it, and I chose it my way
Wherever I fit in if they make a place for me
I like to sing when I play this guitar
I envy or provoke no one when I let out my voice
There are those who are poor with much and I am rich with little

And now I bid farewell with this Pampa milonga
You know when you need, you can count on me
When you whistle, I'll come to your hearth
Bringing in the fretboard my song made of hope
And if that's not enough, I leave you my heart
