La N. N (Chacarera)
Ruben Alberto Benegas
The N. N (Chacarera)
When I came from the North
I brought saddlebags all full
Of carob and sweets
Piperine and good herb
I also loaded a little cheese
Dried meat from sheep
And a little herb called 'male toad'
To chase away sorrows
A little poncho all in tatters
Gift from old mama
It got tangled in the saddlebags
As if it were a complaint
Wow, I brought so much
When I came from the North
What winds punished me
To leave me so poor
The kiss from old mama
Her hand turned into a name
Like a lost handkerchief
That goes crying in farewells
I carried all my dreams
I bring songs from the mountain
The singing of the bushes
And the sighing of my nights
The cry of my countrymen
Born among the hardships
Because he who is a son of the hill
Always has pains
Wow, I brought so much
When I came from the North
What winds punished me
To leave me so poor
