Naturaleza muerta
Rubén Blades
Still Life
The last tree in Brazil was unearthed at 10
months old. The sole survivor of the Plant Kingdom.
'A new Era begins,' is the official proclamation.
The indigenous people who cared for it left that night,
walking on the sea. The last tree in Matto Grosso,
the last tree in Brazil, was sold to pay off the
foreign debt, after a frantic auction. The tree was covered
in cellophane, photographed by the international press,
bid farewell with honors by the military government.
'Photos of the tree will be offered at a popular price.'
In the Ministry for Development and Progress, there's a
painting hanging on the wall. The painting shows the jungle
that once existed, the flora that was there, and that is gone.
They say the painter committed suicide after finishing his work.
The last tree in Brazil departed overseas.
'(If it were me!)'
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
