Vida
Rubén Blades
Life
No one chooses their family or their race when they are born
Nor being rich, poor, good, bad, brave or cowardly
We are born from a decision where we were not consulted
And no one can promise us results
When we are born we don't even know our name
Nor what our path will be, nor what the future holds
Between baptism and burial, each one makes a path
And with their decisions, a destiny
We are just another card in a game that someone else has started
And each will bet according to the hand they have inherited
Life is a door where they don't charge you for entry
And the soul is the ticket that, in living, they tear when you pay
And each step creates a footprint, and each footprint is a story
And each yesterday is a star in the sky of memory
And the tide of time brings and takes our contradictions
And between return and farewell, mistakes heal
And each friend is the family we choose among strangers
And between waiting and meeting, one learns over the years
That only our spirit responds to consciousness
And that one thing is to be male and another is to be a man
No one chooses their family, or their race, when they are born
Nor being good, bad, pretty, ugly, innocent or guilty
From birth to death, every life is a bet
The answer depends on our will
Dreaming of a different world
Where our love never ends!
Fight for a different world
Where our love never fades!
