Bairro Do Oriente
Rui Veloso
Oriental Neighborhood
I have by the window
An old cornucopia
Full of lavender
And orchids from Ethiopia
I have a transistor by the bed
With sounds of harps and oboes
And songs from other lands
That I traveled from end to end
I have a lantern
That I brought from Arabia
To love you in the oil light
In a Kama Sutra of wise nights
I have by the dressing table
A large water pipe
That we smoke sitting on the sofa
As the sorrow falls
I have an astrolabe
Given to me by Bedouins
To measure in the sky
Your starry eyes
Come to my house
Roll in bed and in the garden
Light up the ignominy
And the bad tongue of the gossip code
That condemns us in a clause
To have sex like cherubs
