Sakimori No Uta
Sada Masashi
Song of the Guardian
Please tell me, if all living things
have a limit to their life,
will the sea die? Will the mountains die?
What about the wind? What about the sky?
Please tell me.
I sometimes think about suffering.
Everyone shares the same deep sadness.
The pain of living and the sadness left behind,
the suffering of illness and the sadness of dying,
myself in this moment.
Please answer me, if everything in this world
has a promise to fulfill,
will spring die? Will autumn die?
As summer fades away, and winter comes,
do we all have to go?
Can I believe in the sparkle of this fleeting life?
In the hopes that can’t be seen with words,
if some people leave, others will come,
and the waning moon will eventually return,
in the midst of our daily lives.
Please tell me, if all living things
have a limit to their life,
will the sea die? Will the mountains die?
Will spring die? Will autumn die?
Will love die? Will the heart die?
Will my precious hometown and everyone else
also have to go away?
