Prayer
I pray for those who cry without consolation
For those who have experienced more hell than heaven
For those who have always had fear and depression as their best friends
And who live seeking an answer to such a situation
I pray for those who came into this world without parents
For the newborn abandoned by a mother on the street
For those who have been beaten since in the womb by a heartless father
And who have no right to vote as they lack a voice
I pray for those whose home is addiction
And who cannot leave it as it has become their profession
For those who leave family and friends for a moment of pleasure
Who, like a bullet wound, go on hurting everywhere
I pray for the marriage that has fallen apart
And for the child who cries out in anguish 'I have rights from both of you'
When one flesh is divided, it has to bleed
That blood that flows is a witness to great loneliness
They need you, Jesus, they need you
Because even though they are alive, they do not know what it is to live
They need you, Jesus, they need you
Because even though they are alive, they do not know what it is to live
For the woman and the girl who sell their bodies at night
And who waste their money on extravagances during the day
I dream of that woman and that girl having a family to laugh with
And at ten, after dinner, going to sleep
For those children who have never had a toy
And for the rich who make boats with their bills
For the sick who are in prisons called hospitals
And for the prisoners who fall ill behind the cold metals
Jesus, I know that you remain the only alternative
And that you offer free rest without charging VAT
And to those of us who have known you, help us understand
That we must clothe the naked, give bread to the hungry
And even if we don't like it, pray for the government
They need you, Jesus, and me.
