Sacris Solemniis

Sacris Solemniis
On this sacred solemnity
May joys be united
And let praises resound from our hearts
Let the old things depart, let all be new
Hearts, voices, and works
The last supper is recalled
In which Christ is believed to have given the lamb and unleavened bread
To the brothers
According to the ancient law granted to the fathers
After the typical lamb
The feast being completed
The Lord's body was given to the disciples
So to all completely
What is the whole for each
We confess with our hands
He gave to the weak
The sustenance of the body
He also gave to the sorrowful the cup of blood
Saying: Take what I hand over, the vessel
All of you drink from it
Thus this sacrifice
He instituted, the duty of which
He wanted to entrust solely to the priests
To whom it is fitting
That they receive and give to others
The angelic bread becomes the bread of men
The heavenly bread ends the symbols
O marvelous thing: The poor, the servant, and the humble
Eat the Lord
We ask You, O Trinity, One and Only
Visit us in this way, as we worship You
Lead us through Your paths to where we aim
To the light in which You dwell
Amen
