The Inn of the Stomping Pony
To the inn we must go, with Mr. Butterbur.
To the inn we must go, Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin.
They said goodbye to Bombadil, the Goldenberry, and the Downs,
A barrow-wight tried to catch them, and Tom saved them again.
Tom accompanied them near the village of Bree.
Then he advised them to go to the Stomping Pony.
Frodo changed his name: he chose Mr. Underhill.
Prudence was his salvation, they watched him from every corner.
He appeared when the night fell.
They knocked softly on the door
And through the curtains they saw inside
Soon, Butterbur came out,
Welcomed them and spoke to them:
[chorus]
Come into the Stomping Pony inn!!
Come into the inn... the more the merrier!!
Bob took the ponies to the stable to rest,
Meanwhile in the hall, the guests dined, chatted.
Suddenly Frodo noticed a strange man staring at him,
Sitting in the shadow, listening to the conversation.
He asked the innkeeper for the man's identity.
He replied: "- They call him Strider,
Because of his long strides and steps he takes".
Frodo pretended not to notice
And stared at Strider intensely.
[chorus]
To the inn we must go with Mr. Butterbur,
To the inn we must go, Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin.
Dwarves, hobbits, and men of Bree, sing and dance in their corners.
The crowd is varied here, and the smoke makes me laugh.
He appeared when the night fell.
They knocked softly on the door
And through the curtains they saw inside
Soon, Butterbur came out,
Welcomed them and spoke to them:
[chorus]
