Por La Simpleza de Mi Gente
Sergio Denis
For the Simplicity of My People
I could tell so many things about the town where I was born
About the simplicity of my people
Their humility, their hard work
Their postponed dreams
Their silence, their love
I could talk about the vastness of a sunrise
About the sadness of a train leaving
Taking a friend far away, who knows where
About first love, a flower in hand
Waiting outside school
A bench in the park and the movies on Sundays
About a whole world of dreams
That the same place turns into reality or forgetfulness
And my people gave me so much
As they’ll never know
I learned so much from my grandpa plowing his land
From my dad working with wood
From my mom's love for our home
From living on dirt roads
From sharing the joy of my siblings
From dreaming on a thousand lost nights
With uncertain futures
I could talk about so many things
About the field and my soccer jersey
About the happiest day of my childhood
When the camels ate all the grass
Drank all the water
And Black Baltazar left us a Meccano
And my long pants
And high school
And the student dances
And my first guitar
And Salvador Gangone playing his violin
And my eternal love for the math teacher
And I’m always searching for the way
Always searching for the way
Because I am the dream that once
My people dreamed to reach
Because I am my town
With my people, I will return
I will return
