O Filho Pródigo
Sérgio Lopes
The Prodigal Son
The world gave me flowers when I arrived there
All the pleasures I found there
I couldn't see the ties and how many entanglements
Were waiting for me, and I surrendered
One day I woke up without peace
My heart, thrown to its own fate and loneliness
Remembering my father
And the pain in his eyes when I left
I decided to return and humble myself at his feet saying:
Lord, I don't deserve your forgiveness
Like your most humble servant I want to be
Your love, only now I realize
Is the wealth I most need to have
He embraced me tenderly, forgot my mistakes
And announced my return in celebration
Who in the world can give, without expecting reward
Such a remarkable proof of love
