Cabocla Tereza
Sérgio Reis
Cabocla Tereza
Up on the mountain top
In a very strange house
All made of thatch
I stopped my horse one night
Because of two knocks
I heard from inside
I tied it up very gently
I heard a perfect moan
A voice full of pain
You, Tereza, rest
I swore to seek revenge
Because of my love
Through the crack of the window
By a dim yellow light
From a nearly extinguished lantern
I saw a cabocla on the ground
And the man had in his hand
A gun shining
I turned my horse galloping
I marked with spur and whip
I bled the flank of that one
I descended the mountain below
And galloping that male
I went to call your doctor
Let's go back to the mountain
To that strange little house
Me and your doctor
I met a frightened man
Who called us to the side
And told his story
Long ago I made a little ranch
For my cabocla to live
For it was there our nest
Far away from this place
Up there on the mountain
Near the moonlight
I lived a happy year
Without ever expecting this
And a long time passed
Thinking to be so happy
But Tereza, doctor
Did not want happiness
I put my dream in this look
I paid for my love
Because of another caboclo
My ranch she abandoned
I felt my blood boil
I swore to kill Tereza
I saddled my chestnut horse
And went to look for her
Now I have avenged
This is the end of love
I killed this cabocla
This is my story, doctor
