It's the time of the nightjar
Jaguar advances dancing
Caipora and babau dance
A party of fear and astonishment
Of hauntings in a gathering
Piercing through the trunk of the night
A woodpecker's beak
Spells are in the air
From a cunning sorcerer
Charms and things done
In Nicolau's xangô
Fear of the night hidden
In the branches of a tree
Every dance is accompanied
Playing his berimbau
A forgotten hunter
Lurks from a high lookout
Doesn't see agouti or paca
Only sees jaguar and babau
Someone sobs and laments
All this world so bad
Pecking at the night's shadow
The woodpecker pecks
Someone in the river agonizes
In a river with no ford
Someone in the nighttime shadow
Died at the bottom of the perau
