Don Juan Del Chaparro

The story of López Chirinos
(Don Juan del Chaparro) is this
He returned from his mine accompanied
By his dog. He arrived from the mountain through

New paths. Upon reaching the shade
Of the chaparro (tree) he rested. He had
Fever and couldn't go on. He was
Sick for several days, without help

And finally he died. The dog was
Defending his corpse from the vultures
Until the people arrived. In those
Days a young man from Upata appeared
Looking for work (He was a bricklayer)

A compassionate person collected money to
Commission the bricklayer to make the grave for
The unknown man who had died there
The young man agreed to build it. The surprise

Accompanied his work, when moving the
Human remains, he found the riches that
The dead man had brought from the gold mines
And in his luck he didn't forget to put something of his own

To thank for the gift. That's how the mausoleum was built
Where the devotees continue with their
Worship for the soul of López Chirinos
(Don Juan del Chaparro)

The Soul of the Chaparro or Purguó is found
At the exit of El Manteco-Edo. Bolívar
A chaparro, a lily, and a guava provide shade
To a small white house (His Sanctuary), small

But very beautiful guarded by a
Military Post (Vehicle checkpoint). There is his coffin
And above it an image carved in wood
Reminds that the deceased was named López Chirinos
