Story of Black Felipe

Stout and gallant prince descendant of Africans
Son of Changó, arrives in South American lands as a slave
After a quite eventful sea journey
Endowed with the gift of speech which he used during the crossing
So that his companions wouldn't feel defeated
Causing several revolts at sea

Reason for which he suffered the punishment of being tied
To the stern for several days, where the sea water hit
His body to break his indomitable spirit, many
Times his body was completely covered by
The sea, but he emerged victorious again, as if the sea

Physical wear of his body, once again they impose all
Kinds of hard physical work with few hours of rest

To break his rebellion and pride; however, the little
Free time he had, he used to remember to his
Brothers of races, the goodness of his region where there was no
Abuse towards others, the respect for their divinities
Living energies of nature to whom they worshiped with the
Purpose of obtaining their favors, he teaches with great mastery the drum
Beat at party level and the mournful song of longing, imparts
Attack techniques, was skilled with the spear, astute in battle, cunning
Respectful and knowledgeable of the goodness and betrayals of the night, fights
So that the traditions of his ancestors are not lost, and insists on

Learning the language of his captors without forgetting that of his region
Native; this in order to know the plans of his overseers
And prepare strategies to survive and/or escape
