Berrante da Meia Noite
Silveira e Silveirinha
Midnight Horn
I'm going to tell a story
Published in the newspapers
Inside a virgin forest
In the backlands of Goiás
It was midnight
When I saw the signs
A horn echoing
And the foreman's shout
A countryman passed by
When he heard the sad cries
His body shivered
Because the fear was too much
A midnight cowboy
Doesn't exist in Goiás
And within a few days
The news spread
A man without religion
Doubted this fact
He went to sleep in the forest
To show his worth
When it was midnight
A horn echoed
He tried to run
But his body faltered
A voice came and said
- My friend, here I am
What I went through in life
I will tell you
Many years ago
I was a cowboy
Transporting my cattle
Across this Brazilian land
Out of malice and cowardice
My false companion
Who took my life
To steal my money
Left me in the forest
Near a cross
Where I play my horn
Remembering my companions
I never forget for a moment
The ungrateful loneliness
Of leaving my little children
In the saddest suffering
Friend, a thousand times I ask for your forgiveness
I doubted this fact of yours
Because I have no religion
You told me and your story
You fulfilled your duty
I will tell your children
That you gained salvation
I will leave my companions
And the forests of Goiás
I will live in heaven
Close to my parents
Midnight horn
Now doesn't play anymore
Midnight horn
Now doesn't play anymore
