Chão de Estrelas
Silvio Caldas
Ground of Stars
My life was a bright stage
I lived dressed in gold
A clown of lost illusions
Full of the fake jingles of joy
I walked singing my fantasy
Amid the feverish applause of hearts
My shack on the Salgueiro hill
Had the cheerful song of a birdcage
You were the sound that faded away
And today, when the sunlight
Covers my shack, I feel nostalgia
For the dove-like woman who flew away
Our common clothes hanging
On the line, like waving flags
Looked like a strange festival
A party of our colorful rags
Showing that in the hills, poorly dressed
It’s always a national holiday
The door of the shack had no latch
But the Moon, piercing our tin roof
Sprinkled stars on our ground
You walked on the stars, lost in thought
Not knowing that the joy of this life
Is the girl, the moonlight, and the guitar
