Certas Coisas

Certain Things
There are certain things in life
That should stay
The way they always were
The brave little cottage
Balcony and garden in front
Surrounded by distance
Field, farm and orchard
Home-like desire
Where I lived my childhood!
The coastal shed
The border accent
Stories from the past
And to tame the winters
An eternal ground fire
Burning in our souls
A saddled easel
The tangled loop
What a snake ready to strike!
A good beagle dog
And a petition in the sogueiro
To take life at a trot
There are certain things about us
That should stay
The same way, forever
Half court field
Populated by fireflies
To make a kid dream
Sincere friendships
And a handful of chimeras
That I no longer have in my eyes
The swept floor patio
The known flavors
Oven bread, fried pastry
Mother's lap, friends
And the ancient groves
Shading a blessed time
The mornings of campereadas
Bulls bellowing in winter
And the clear bugle of the roosters
A cow licking her young
And I pay him to write poetry
On the trail of their horses!
There are certain things in life
That should stay
The way they always were
Milk rapaduris
Our grandmothers' spell
Flavors that never end
And the ripe oranges
May my father, with sweetness
He peeled them for me
The soft voice of the peddler
That transformed into art
The fate of the vendors
And amidst cheetahs and extracts
Sold at a cheap price
The most expensive illusions
The prose of the washerwomen
The prayers of the healers
Mixture of faith and innocence
The call of the tropeiros
The song of João Barreiro
And all the sounds of the love!
There are certain things about us
That should stay
The same way, forever
