El Rey de Las Flores
Silvio Rodriguez
The King of Flowers
To the king of flowers
I met him in the afternoon
Some time ago
He caught my attention
His rainbow tone
On the skin
And his paper crown.
The king of flowers
Has his town
In a very remote forest
Two inches behind the sun
Each tenant in a flower
And on each floor is love.
The king of flowers
Has lizards that sing
From jump to jump
He has battalions
Of tiny bees
Spiders, slugs, and pretty birds.
The king of flowers
Works and works
His town also works
He knocks down the forests
The tall grass
Sails in the puddles
Of water from the countryside.
The king of flowers
Has his factories
Inside the earth
Each worker empties a flower
That will grow in spring
Otherwise a fly will rain on it.
Over the flowery fields
Of the king of flowers
I see my son
And calling him there is a voice
He was split in two halves
By a bomb that fell
