I’m talking about the bottom of a puddle
that’s sitting stagnant on the main street
that rainbow of car oil
after the rain that came from the south.
A whirlwind lifts some leaves
that still look very green as they disappear
and a silhouette in silence that moves
filled with shadows of itself.
It crosses the street, halts its stride
in the window of an old store
and the old books seem to want
to pull it deep into the dust, and then
it crosses another street and stops again
in front of an old vase with salt flowers.
It’s going to smell them and realizes
that they’re synthetic flowers, laughs and walks away,
and that silhouette in silence that moves
filled with shadows of itself,
is penetrating into the sunset
under its sky that keeps insisting on raining.
