Les Eaux de Mars
Stacey Kent
The Waters of March
One step, one stone, a path that winds
A leftover root, it's a bit lonely
It's a shard of glass, it's life, the sun
It's death, sleep, it's a half-open trap
A thousand-year-old tree, a knot in the wood
It's a barking dog, it's a bird in the air
It's a rotting trunk, it's melting snow
The deep mystery, the promise of life
It's the breath of the wind at the top of the hills
It's an old ruin, the void, the nothingness
It's the chattering magpie, it's the pouring rain
Torrents of joy, it's the waters of March
It's the foot moving surely, slowly
It's the hand reaching out, it's the thrown stone
It's a hole in the earth, a path that winds
A leftover root, it's a bit lonely
It's a bird in the air, a bird landing
The watered garden, a clear water source
A splinter, a nail, it's the rising fever
A bargain, it's a bit of nothing
A fish, a gesture, it's like quicksilver
It's all we expect, it's all we have left
It's wood, it's a day at the end of the dock
A spiked drink, the shortest way
It's the cry of an owl, a drowsy body
The rusty car, it's the mud, it's the mud
One step, one bridge, a croaking toad
It's a passing barge, it's a beautiful horizon
It's the rainy season, it's the melting of ice
It's the waters of March, the promise of life
One stone, one stick, it's Joseph and it's Jacques
A snake attacking, a cut on the heel
One step, one stone, a path that winds
A leftover root, it's a bit lonely
It's the fading winter, the end of a season
It's the melting snow, it's the waters of March
The promise of life, the deep mystery
It's the waters of March deep in your heart
One step, one stone, a path that winds
A leftover root, it's a bit lonely
It's the fading winter, the end of a season
It's the melting snow, it's the waters of March
The promise of life, the deep mystery
It's the waters of March deep in your heart
