La Guillermina
Susana Baca
The Guillermina
When my sister invited her
And I went to open the door,
Then the Guillermina walked in
The sun, the stars came in
This happened in Temuco.
I was fourteen years old
And I was proudly dark,
Skinny, all formal
Oh where could the Guillermina be?
Oh where could the Guillermina be?
The years have passed slowly
Impure years have gone by
And I wandered from cloud to cloud,
From land to land, from eye to eye.
My heart has walked
And I've swallowed the thorns,
While the rain at the border
Fell, in the same old clothes.
Oh where could the Guillermina be?
Oh where could the Guillermina be?
I had no break where I was,
Where I hit, I got hit,
I fell where they killed me
And I rose again feeling fresh
And then and then and then and then,
Telling the tales takes so long
I have nothing to add
I came to live in this world
Oh where could the Guillermina be?
Oh where could the Guillermina be?
