Dos Novias
Tabaré Cardozo
Two Girlfriends
In a white hat,
with patent leather shoes
and a pretty flower on the lapel.
He passes stealthily through the old alley,
and the black cats crouch.
He releases a white smile,
and it's like an ivory dagger (white dagger).
When the old ladies hear him coming,
they put their girls in the hallway.
They say he looks at them with the eyes of a hawk,
and speaks softly in the dim light;
that he charms them, that he's a black swindler
and never goes through the altar.
When one girlfriend sighs,
another walks with him.
He went to the middle of the world by tram.
Bartolomé has two girlfriends.
He says he has two girlfriends.
Two girlfriends, two girlfriends, in the absence of one he has two
what a cocky gentleman! He says he has two girlfriends.
Look at this: Poor Bartolomé
spends the day in love
and without eating.
And yet he's happy.
Look at this: Poor Bartolomé.
They say his life is easy, but they don't see
that the poor man has two mothers-in-law.
Two mothers-in-law, two mothers-in-law, in the absence of one he has two
what a punishment from the Lord! He says he has two mothers-in-law.
Two girlfriends, two girlfriends, in the absence of one he has two
what a cocky gentleman! He says he has two girlfriends.
To each girlfriend a flower so she feels loved
and a love letter for each fiancée.
It's better to have two, in case one of them forgets...
If one candle goes out, the other remains lit.
What a cocky boy! What a good life!
