La Niña De Las Amapolas
Tabaré Cardozo
The Poppy Girl
A beautiful girl with a full gaze
Woke up as a young girl with the full moon
She found out what she needs from the world
She didn't leave a letter or take suitcases
Her face washed, hair with a flower
Light clothes, smelling of mint and lemon verbena
Almond marzipan to give away
Blue sapphires to hypnotize
Among the marquises of that carnival
She found a puppet to walk with
She was a candlelight for her dawn
And they sang fresh at the end of that morning
The moon's kisses left her alone
While she dreamed among the poppies
The moon's kisses left her alone
While she dreamed among the poppies
While she dreamed among the poppies
In the village they say she's like the evening star
She returns with the nights of every February
The drunks swear that her feline love
Rounds the nights on some road
The gossips whisper, washing by the shore
That it's too late for that girl
But that her eternal breeze in the hills
Is for the flowers of a fairy godmother
The moon's kisses left her alone
While she dreamed among the poppies
While she dreamed among the poppies
While she dreamed among the poppies
