Onde Moram Meus Pais
Taviano e Tavares
Where My Parents Live
Not enduring the longing
Of the time that goes far away
I returned to where I lived
The good times of youth
The stream of the raft
How many memories it brings me
The green field
And the beautiful coconut groves
My joy was so great
When I saw the white house
Where my parents live
In the shade of the cedar tree
I spent hours reminiscing
The daily hustle and bustle
Everything was changing
I didn't see the dairy cows
By the gate ruminating
In the paddock I no longer saw
My horse grazing
I no longer heard the beats
Steady and following
Of the water mill working
I no longer heard the jaó
Chirping on the fence
And there in the old passage
There's no longer the mud puddle
Where it was certain
Fresh trail of the woodsmen
I no longer saw Sultão
Nor Guampo and Ligeiro
I cried for not resisting
The longing I felt
For the old companions
Today I live remembering
The noise of the little river
Also the old silk-cotton tree
There from the curve of the road
Its branches still bloom
Providing shelter to the birds
On its trunk I saw my name
Engraved among the thorns
Of the good times that passed
Only the longing remained
Along my path
