Bendito San Cayetano
Teresa Parodi
Blessed Saint Cayetano
Timidly the men
Holding their hats in hand
Bow down, biting a prayer
Arriving at the old sanctuary.
The women and the children
In tight little circles
Cross themselves and pray
Their love to Saint Cayetano.
The procession is lit up
With candles and with shouts
Chanting an ancient hymn
Chanting an old psalm:
Saint Cayetano, I ask you
For bread and for work
Don’t leave us without your help
Blessed Saint Cayetano.
"The one who should respond
Shouldn’t be Saint Cayetano
The ones who should respond
Are looking the other way."
The town knows it well
But they cling to the miracle
On earth, they want the reward
Of some heaven ahead of time.
Oblivion always pushes
With sorrow the forgotten
Seeking shelter in faith
They know no other refuge.
The procession is lit up
With candles and with shouts
Chanting an ancient hymn
Chanting an old psalm:
Saint Cayetano, I ask you
For bread and for work
Don’t leave us without your help
Blessed Saint Cayetano.
"At another door it will be
At another door the shout
The one who should respond
Shouldn’t be Saint Cayetano."
