El Aniversario
Teresa Parodi
The Anniversary
The road passes far away and she's looking
The evening among the orange trees
So leisurely fading away
The dryness tells her there will be a storm
Better if she gathers the dry clothes
Before the rain starts to fall
You know that Don José will say in a while
That today is again the anniversary
Of the departure of his Julian
The son who went to those icy fields
To give his life as a soldier
For the flag and freedom
The silence erased
The war that was
Shame and pain
So much forgetting and goodbye
She could never understand
The reason
The letter only said that he had fought
Like a brave man and they killed him
In those cold southern fields
That they wouldn't bring him back
That they left him
In that distant ground
Under a white and small cross
She only shadows him occasionally
But José keeps looking for him
With memories that never rest
He enters the house with his arms full
The dry clothes that are hanging
Quietly he starts to fold
Today the radio returned
To speak with love
Of that illusion
It wasn't in vain he thought
Losing you, Julian
It seems not
The storm passed
Life is there
Trembling in the flower
It's Sunday again
Tomorrow maybe
The sun shining
