A Rosa e o Cravo
Tiquequê
The Rose and the Carnation
The carnation fought with the rose
Underneath a balcony
The carnation came out wounded
And the rose, shattered
The carnation fell ill
And the rose went to visit
The carnation fainted
And the rose began to cry
But soon he woke up
She couldn't believe it
And then in a long embrace,
They promised not to fight anymore
But not even a week passed
They had another argument
The carnation said 'forget me'
And the rose 'there's no forgiveness'
Then a little girl
Leaned over that balcony
And upon seeing such a sad scene
She said to them, indignant
'Don't fight, oh beautiful flowers
It breaks my heart
I can't bear to see you suffer
Every time I sing this song
Flowers have never been seen fighting
Who made up this refrain
Why don't you make peace now
And put an end to this matter'
The carnation looked at the rose
And the rose looked back
But it was a distant look
And that didn't please her
And then
The carnation fought with the rose
Underneath a balcony
The carnation came out wounded
And the rose, shattered
