El Enamorado

The Lover
Listen, it's tough to fall in love when the in-laws can't
See you, or even get close to the one you want, well
You have to be patient and sneak around
Almost always at night and avoiding the day
Last week, twenty-five past eleven
I finished shaving, combing my mustache
I put on cologne, to smell good
And I headed to the house of the love of my loves
We both agreed, so very content
I was rubbing my hands, Iñor, laughing to myself
It had cost me so much for her to say okay
And that night was the night, so horns to the sky!
The dogs knew me, so no problems
Even wagged their tails when I signaled them
The window was close, try your luck!
The moon was up there and my girl was inside
I stepped inside, my heart was racing
'Are you there?' I asked. And she answered she was
Listen, if you knew the luck I have
I turned around and the vase fell down
Ten minutes to twelve, things started getting wild
Outside a door rang and someone asked 'who's there?'
I wanted to say 'the cat', but the words wouldn't come out, Iñor
So I grabbed a shoe and thought of saving my life
I put on my pants, tripped over the candle
Got tangled in the curtain, made a fool of myself, Iñor
I managed to get outside, damn, the dogs got me
To think we were friends and there they didn't recognize me
Damn dogs... Well, in the state I was in
With half a shirt out and no hat on
My father-in-law, through the window, aimed his shotgun at me
'Stop!' he said, 'bang!' 'Help!' shouted an old lady
I jumped over the fence, which led to the other side
And landed in the pigsty, get a burnt belly
The chickens woke up, people were running
'They're stealing! They're stealing!' they shouted in a frenzy
I don't know how, I made it home alive that night
Half limping with one shoe and covered in mud
Lost a couple of socks, lost my underwear
Brought back a couple of pellets and a bite on my ankle
One eye really sore, and to top it off
A stench of pigsty that still won't go away, Iñor
Good thing it was night, they came looking for me a month later
In case I had 'visitors', I had to get married
So I grabbed the blanket, got a horse from the stable
And took off like a bat out of hell, Iñor
'Stop him!' someone shouted, damn, but I had wings, Iñor
More scared than a quail, I got lost in the mountains
Damn, I'm so unlucky, as if I could see
My doomed fate to spend it running
Today I'm after one, so I'm prepared
Outside the window, I have the horse saddled
And here the story ends, I never lie
So goodnight! In case the horse fails me
