Villa Triste
Tito Schipa
Sad Villa
There was a day so sunny
behind the iron gate.
On the banks of the stream
I kissed you without words.
A tight embrace confused us
above the sea of lilacs,
then the door closed
on my happiness.
Sad villa,
among the hidden poppies,
of the color of amethysts,
few things have remained.
The questions, the answers,
the color of the dress,
the song you sang,
the lies you told me.
Sad villa!
Under the patched sky,
all in clusters of silver,
there's a light of dismay
in the abandoned garden.
On the myrtle hedge
the wind sobs as it goes.
It's a tear for every star
that no one will dry.
Sad villa,
among the hidden poppies,
of the color of amethysts,
few things have remained.
The questions, the answers,
the color of the dress,
the song you sang,
the lies you told me.
Sad villa!
Behind the shadow of the shutters
how many things have remained.
Sad villa!
