Soneto da Fidelidade
Tom Jobim
Sonnet of Fidelity
Of everything, my love, I will be attentive
Before, and with such care, and always, and so much
That even in the face of the greatest charm
My thoughts are even more enchanted by it.
I want to live it in every fleeting moment
And in its praise, I will spread my song
And laugh my laughter and shed my tears
In your sorrow or your joy.
And so, when later on I seek myself
Who knows death, anguish of the living
Who knows loneliness, end of the lover
I can say of love
That it may not be immortal, as it is a flame
But may it be infinite while it lasts.
