Oh, du lieber Augustin
Vaclav Neckar
Oh, Dear Augustin
When I was little, about seven years old,
I wanted to be a cowboy
and nothing more, that's the truth.
And on our farm, I felt
like I was in the prairie.
And I threw the laundry line like never before.
My mom bought me a hat
and I tipped it back
and everything was going just fine.
Until one time I lassoed
our neighbor.
Oh, dear Augustin
and everything is lost.
La, la, la, la, la, la, ...
When I was seventeen one day,
I had a girlfriend,
super blonde, well, that's clear.
And she only swooned for cowboys,
a little for me too.
I only wore studded jeans
on purpose.
One day we saw a movie,
where strong guys on horses
pulled their guns.
But from then on
she only had the cowboy hero on her mind.
Oh, dear Augustin
and everything is lost.
La, la, la, la, la, la, ...
Ten years later, I was a man,
had other worries,
barely thought about it,
about the cowboy games in the yard,
about Colts and yippee-ki-yay.
That world isn't so okay.
But as I look out at the yard,
I see kids playing again.
Whoever doesn't join in is a fool.
And they wear big hats,
swinging the laundry line high.
Whoosh, there she is already caught in the lasso,
another neighbor.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy,
everything is lost.
