Los 500 Novillos
Valentín Elizalde
The 500 Steers
When we left on bail
with the strong herd of steers
oh, the troubles we went through
across that vast plain
Five hundred steers they were
all very lively
they couldn't be stopped
by fifteen Americans
At eleven at night
a heavy downpour was unleashed
in order to stop them
we formed a shootout
In the plains of the palomo
a fierce bull got loose
the foreman lassoed it
on his dark horse
The mother of a cowboy
asks the foreman
what reason can you give me about my son
that I haven't seen him arrive
Ma'am, if I told you
you would start to cry
a bull has killed your son
in the ditches of a corral
Five hundred steers they were
all very lively
they couldn't be stopped
by fifteen Americans
With this I bid farewell
I have no more to sing
these verses were composed
by Giribaldo the foreman
