The Death of Carrete

-Hands up, you’re surrounded, Carrete!
-I’d rather die than give up!

In '96, on February sixth,
It was the day they cornered the tiger.
They called him Carrete,
He was at Tonino’s place,
In the house where he lived.

Hands up, they shouted at Carrete,
There were over a hundred soldiers,
And in front was a lieutenant,
At Tonino’s ranch,
Death was lurking around.

His legend began in '80,
When he killed Don Gregorio,
And two high-ranking lieutenants,
They blamed him for the deaths of three or four soldiers.

They shouted, “Carlos Meza, we’re here to arrest you,
We’ve got you surrounded, your bad luck has come,”
Carlos Meza replied, with his AK-47.

He was already waiting for them,
I’m not afraid to die,
Come for me whenever you want,
You’ve got good rifles,
I’ve got the devil in my hands,
And he won’t let me give up.

The tiger from Mazatlán, who was killed this day,
A high-ranking military officer,
Ordered the hunt,
They were from the 43rd,
Infantry battalion.

More than 600 people said their goodbyes,
The musicians kept playing their favorites,
“How will you leave, my angel,
And life isn’t worth anything?”

Pieces...

Goodbye, my dear mother, who saw me born,
Goodbye, my wife Maria, goodbye, little Carla too,
To my horse and my dog,
I ask that you take good care of them.
