A Moda das Tranças Pretas
Vicente da Câmara
The Trend of Black Braids
She was so beautiful with her flirtatious air
They even called her the 'girl with black braids',
Strolling through Chiado all day long,
Selling little bunches of violets.
And the high society girls who passed by
Would feel sad thinking about her hair,
When she looked, embarrassed, they would hide it
And slowly they all let theirs grow out.
Days went by and the Chiado girls
Started wearing braids adorned with violets,
They all liked her new hairstyle,
And that's how the trend of black braids was born.
No one hopes for the violet seller anymore,
She left memories, she's gone by evening,
Chiado is now filled with a thousand braids
But black braids like hers, no one has.
