Mi Árbol y Yo
Vicente Fernández
My Tree and I
My mother and I planted it
At the edge of the yard
Where the house ends
It was my father who brought it
I was five years old
And it was just a branch
When spring arrived
We fertilized the soil well
And covered it with water
With little pieces of wood
We made a barrier
So it wouldn't get damaged
My tree sprouted
My childhood passed
Today, under its shade
That grew so much
We have memories
My tree and I
As the years went by
With long pants
Adolescence came to me
It was under the shade of my tree
A summer nap
Where I lost my innocence
Then it was time for studying
With frequent returns
But fully aware
That I was starting a long journey
One-way ticket and passages
Absence won me over
My tree remained
And time passed
Today under its shade
That grew so much
We have memories
My tree and I
Many years have passed
And finally, I have returned
To my beloved land
And at the edge of the yard
There it was waiting for me
Like a friend waits
It seemed to smile at me
As if wanting to tell me
Look, I'm full of nests
That tree we planted
Twenty-something years ago
When I was just a child
The one that sprouted
And time passed
Half of my life
It stayed with me
Today under its shade
That grew so much
We have memories
My tree and I
